All research groups have a leader, and the research group leader is usually a professor or senior researcher with a permanent position at the hospital or the University of Oslo. The leader has professional responsibility for the project portfolio in the group, develops long-term goals, and contributes to:
- developing new project applications
- establishing contacts with regional, national, and international environments
- making the project's results visible and promoting them
- creating meeting places for the members of the research group
- collaborating with related projects
